In MOOCs, e-learning

Would you like to try and learn something completely new, interesting and fresh? Something that will only require to have a computer, mobile or tablet and a network connection without the need of being physically in a classroom? All of this is now possible! Let's talk about it.

MOOC: A new amazing way to keep learning

Well, we actually have courses and tutorials in YouTube but what if you want to have a certificate that supports your knowledge in a certain topic? That's the reason I decided to write about this new way of learning: MOOCs online.

But what exactly are MOOCs? MOOCs, or Massive Online Open Courses, are a new way of online learning which can offer the flexibility of distance learning and lets you tap into a large amount of information available in the online world.

Maybe you are wondering what can you learn with an MOOC.

In fact, there are MOOCs for all the themes you can imagine. As university or college level courses, MOOCs can offer you a taste of a topic without having to complete a full degree study program. There is a large variety of topics which go from IT and web development to earth and energy science, statistics, and data analysis. You also can find lots of other courses in other subject areas like:

  • Management
  • Arts
  • Literature
  • Computer Science
  • Health
  • And much more!

MOOC is great for learning new things and become a pro in yur area

There are also MOOCs that can help you to improve your career, like courses in writing skills, photography or management methodologies. MOOCs can support your job skills too! This learning system is a way to find out a bit more about something you’re interested in. Maybe you want you learn how to write fiction, manage your investments or speak a new language - you can do that through MOOCs.

You’ll find that people from all over the world could be interested in the same things as you. You can post messages, take part in online discussions, answer questions and share the learning process together. The common evaluation is “peer to peer”, that means that your partners in the course can evaluate your performance.

Most of the MOOC platforms or providers have partnered with universities, cultural institutions and enterprises from all over the world like Harvard, Stanford, Tecnológico de Monterrey, UNAM, Microsoft and the Linux Foundation. Just imagine taking a course with them, isn’t that awesome!?

There are so many providers for this courses. Here’s a list of those I deeply recommend:

Mooc is a new and great way of learning

Most courses in MOOCs are free and you get a certificate of completion. Although, some offer a certificate endorsed by the University or Company providing the course and this one has a cost. Don't forget that it can easily add to your resume!

I truly consider that is worth searching a bit to see what courses you want to take. One of the pioneers in the MOOC world, Coursera, offers tracks for specific specialization such as:

  • Introduction to Project Management Principles and Practices
  • Digital Marketing
  • Business Foundations
  • Entrepreneurship: Launching an Innovative Business
  • Introduction to Finance: Valuation and Investing

These are not necessarily free, but the price is significantly cheaper in comparison to a normal classroom course.

So, once you know almost everything about MOOCs, tell me, what are you going to learn today?
